Rapper Sean “Diddy” Combs is reportedly frustrated with the attention another inmate at Brooklyn Metropolitan Detention Center is receiving. Luigi Mangione is in custody on charges related to the death of United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson. Combs is facing charges of sex trafficking, racketeering, and assault, to which he has pleaded not guilty.
“Diddy has been throwing tantrums over the fact that Luigi is getting all the attention in prison and is being viewed as a hero after literally murdering someone on camera,” a source told the Daily Mail. This insider noted that Combs feels exasperated seeing Mangione, who was “caught on camera for a murder,” receiving so much admiration while he himself feels vilified despite maintaining his innocence.
Mangione has reportedly gained support from fellow inmates who have shared personal stories of losing loved ones due to inadequate healthcare. Ironically, the detention center is frequently criticized for its poor healthcare services, which contribute to its challenging conditions marked by violence and suicides.
Although both Combs and Mangione share the same legal team, led by husband-and-wife attorneys Marc and Karen Friedman Agnifilo, they have not interacted. Combs is in the general population, while Mangione is in solitary confinement. “They do not spend time together, and the two really have zero in common,” a source mentioned.
Mangione has pleaded not guilty to Thompson’s murder, despite substantial evidence against him. He faces 11 state criminal charges, including first-degree murder and murder as an act of terrorism, with the potential for life in prison without parole if convicted.
His case is not expected to return to Manhattan federal court until mid-February, as prosecutors and defense attorneys have requested additional time to prepare for trial. They have agreed in a letter to the court to extend the deadline for bringing an indictment against Mangione from January 18 to February 17.
