Selena Gomez, 32, surprised her 422 million Instagram followers on Wednesday night by announcing her engagement to music producer Benny Blanco. The singer shared the joyous news with a series of photos showcasing her stunning diamond ring, captioning the post, “forever begins now…”
In the photos, Gomez posed with her new fiancé, who wrapped his arm around her and kissed her head during what appeared to be a romantic nighttime picnic where he popped the question.
The couple, who started dating in June 2023 but kept their romance under wraps until December, has a history that goes back over a decade. Before becoming romantic, Gomez and Blanco were longtime friends and collaborators. Blanco produced three of Gomez’s hits, including “I Can’t Get Enough” (2019) and “Same Old Love” (2015).
Reflecting on the beginning of their relationship, Blanco recently revealed on Kai Cenat’s Twitch stream that Gomez was the one who initiated their first date. “She asked me out. It was crazy… we were talking, and then she said, ‘You wanna get dinner?’” Blanco admitted that he didn’t realize it was a date at first, given their longstanding friendship.
Gomez has been open about her past relationships, including high-profile romances with The Weeknd, Zedd, Nick Jonas, Taylor Lautner, and an eight-year on-again, off-again relationship with Justin Bieber. But it’s clear that this chapter of her life is dedicated to new beginnings.
Blanco, known for producing hit songs across the music industry, shared that the transition from friendship to romance with Gomez was seamless thanks to their deep personal and professional connection.
As the couple looks ahead to their future together, fans and friends alike have flooded social media with congratulatory messages for the happy pair.
