Fans of Netflix are certain that Selena Gomez committed a serious gaffe in a scene from her most recent movie, Emilia Perez.

Several movie buffs on social media criticized the 32-year-old actress for staring straight into the camera throughout the shoot.

Fans have called Gomez’s eye contact with the camera during a heated phone fight a “crucial mistake,” according to a video that was posted on X.

Another person questioned, “Oh my god, is it supposed to be like that? I feel like I’m having a sensory overload.” 

Another person commented, “This might be the worst acting performance of the year, omg.”

Meanwhile, some criticized the third-generation American-Mexican celebrity’s Spanish, stating, ‘Her Spanish is god awful.’ 

Another commenter wrote, ‘Worst acting ever.’ 

On the other hand, several reviewers thought that Selena’s gaze into the camera was a creative decision.

“Mistake or directing choice? It’s possible that Selena intentionally breaks the fourth wall to add dimension to her character.

“It occurs frequently throughout the film and is highly intentional.” 

Because there were enough cuts and angles to avoid using that shot in post, I believe it was intended to be that way. It’s possible that the editors purposefully left it this way. I may be completely incorrect because I haven’t seen it, but as someone who edits on a daily basis, this looks purposeful.

Gomez made a chic appearance at the second annual Latinas in Hollywood event hosted by Netflix and Elle on Saturday night.
