Uncovering the Truth: The Story Behind the Viral Taylor Swift Voting Video That Fooled the Internet After Her Kamala Harris Endorsement

A ‘new’ video featuring Taylor Swift urging her fans to cast their ballots on election day is going viral as Donald Trump and Kamala Harris compete for the US presidency.

However, the 34-year-old billionaire pop musician first shared the video during the November 2018 midterm elections, and it started trending on X (previously Twitter) and TikTok on Tuesday.

Swift addressed ‘young voters’ directly in it, urging her fans to use the hashtag #JustVoted to submit a picture proving they cast their ballots.

Simply wanting to vote is insufficient. “You must vote to bring about change,” she says in the six-year-old video.

Many Swifties, including the reputable news outlet Newsweek, were duped into thinking it was Swift’s most recent declaration about the 2024 election.

Your support might have just saved democracy, Miss Swift. An unaware admirer tweeted, “Thank you very much.”

In an attempt to get Swift’s notice, some even went so far as to share selfies with their “Just Voted” stickers.

But the clip, which began making the rounds on X (formerly Twitter ) and TikTok on Tuesday, was originally posted by the billionaire pop star, 34, during the November 2018 midterm elections

Swift first posted the video to her Instagram Story in 2018. On Tuesday, the TikTok account @taylor_swift_videos reposted it, and in just nine hours, it received over 400,000 views.

When the account Call To Activism, which has over a million followers and is an outspoken admirer of Harris, posted it to X, it received even more popularity.

With a lengthy Instagram message that has received over 11.4 million likes, Swift openly supported Democratic nominee Harris and her vice presidential choice Tim Walz in September.

A ‘friendly but incredibly necessary reminder’ was sent by Swift on Monday to her loyal fan following to cast their ballots on Tuesday, November 5.

Swift attended boyfriend Travis Kelce’s NFL game in Missouri this week, which is why she was conspicuously absent from Harris’ star-studded closing election rally in Pennsylvania.

In it, Swift spoke directly to 'young voters' and encouraged her followers to show that they voted by posting a photo with the hashtag #JustVoted

Swift was sitting in a VIP booth with Patrick Mahomes’ wife Brittany, a well-known Trump supporter, while she watched the Kansas City Chiefs play the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Arrowhead Stadium.

After liking several postings supporting Trump and JD Vance at this week’s election, Brittany made her support for Trump public in September.

Swift criticized Vance’s comments that the US is led by “childless cat ladies” and hailed Harris as a “gifted leader” when she made her support for the Democrats public in September.

She also attacked former President Trump for ‘falsely’ claiming her support in August by using a number of artificial intelligence graphics.

Swift made her Harris endorsement via Instagram just hours after Harris and Trump’s fiery presidential debate.

Like a lot of you, I watched tonight’s debate. Now is a terrific moment to learn more about the issues at hand and the positions that these candidates hold on the issues that are most important to you, if you haven’t already. “I always watch and read as much as I can about their proposed policies and plans for this country as a voter,” Swift said.

Many Swifties ¿ and even the trusted news publication Newsweek ¿ were left fooled as they believed it was the latest statement from Swift regarding the 2024 election

“I recently learned that an AI of’me’ erroneously supporting Donald Trump’s presidential campaign was uploaded to his website.” My concerns about AI and the perils of disseminating false information were greatly heightened by it. It brought me to the conclusion that I need to be very transparent about my actual plans for this election as a voter. “The truth is the easiest way to fight false information,” she continued.

She noted that ‘I’m voting for @kamalaharris because she fights for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champion them. I think she is a steady-handed, gifted leader and I believe we can accomplish so much more in this country if we are led by calm and not chaos. I was so heartened and impressed by her selection of running mate @timwalz, who has been standing up for LGBTQ+ rights, IVF, and a woman’s right to her own body for decades.’

‘I’ve done my research, and I’ve made my choice. Your research is all yours to do, and the choice is yours to make. I also want to say, especially to first time voters: Remember that in order to vote, you have to be registered! I also find it’s much easier to vote early. I’ll link where to register and find early voting dates and info in my story,’ she wrote.

Swift concluded her Instagram post with: ‘With love and hope, Taylo
