Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson & JJ Abrams Teaming Up, The Rock Teases Project ‘Years In The Making’

Dwayne Johnson teases a mystery new project he’s working on with director J.J. Abrams. Following his WWE debut, Johnson has gone on to become one of the world’s most famous movie stars, starring in films such as Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle (2017), Red Notice (2021), Black Adam (2022), and several Fast & Furious entries. Similar to this, Abrams is a well-known figure in the entertainment industry. He co-created Lost and directed two of the Star Wars movies.

Johnson just shared a new Instagram photo in which he talked about a recent dinner he had with Abrams. The performer hinted about a forthcoming new project that has been “years in the making.” The actor teases that the project is “from the mind of Zak Penn,” an American screenwriter, but he doesn’t say what the project is named or if it’s a movie, TV program, or something else entirely. “Tonight, it comes to life,” is the possibly menacing slogan he ends his message with. View Johnson’s post and its entire caption below:

Years in the making – we finally broke bread, we drank, we laughed, we talked life stuff, love stuff, dude stuff and took our time chopping up our passion for movies and storytelling. Then we all raised a glass and toasted to….

yup, this one is gonna be fun.

What Johnson’s New Tease Means For His Upcoming Abrams Collaboration

What Will The Mystery Project Be?

Although there aren’t many details in Johnson’s article, the fact that Penn and Abrams are involved suggests that he’s talking about a film. Penn and Abrams have both published a great deal of work in the fantasy and science fiction genres. The scriptwriter has contributed to several genre films, including Ready Player One (2018), Free Guy (2021), The Avengers (2012), and The Incredible Hulk (2008). These days, Johnson primarily mainly produces genre films as well, with the exception of his upcoming Mark Kerr biography, The Smashing Machine.

Furthermore, the phrase might be interpreted as a trailer for a monster movie of some sort. Given Abram’s sci-fi tastes, the “it” in question may also be a robot or artificial intelligence. The “it” could be any form of beast or monster.

Johnson is working on several projects right now, so it’s unclear when this new partnership with Abrams will be completed. For instance, Johnson is now working on projects that include the live-action Moana, a Monster Jam film, a Fast X spinoff, Jungle Cruise 2, and a Big Trouble in Little China adaptation. In comparison to some of the other names above, the picture may already be in good form and may go forward more quickly if a screenplay has been completed.

Our Take On Johnson & Abrams’ New Project

Will The Movie Be A Hit?

Johnson is still one of Hollywood’s busiest actors, starring in major motion pictures on a regular basis. On the other hand, a lot of these films are probably not that great, or at best, they’re just forgettable popcorn entertainment. Most people agree that The Rise of Skywalker is also an unimpressive way to wrap up the Skywalker Saga. Therefore, Johnson and Abrams both require a return project.

The film Red One, which has an enormous rumored budget of $250 million, is Johnson’s upcoming release. This movie has a very high bar for success because of its exorbitant price, and it’s likely that the actor will experience yet another setback with the Christmas movie. Therefore, the onus is on Johnson and Abrams’ partnership to deliver, but the fact that some essential components are already in place is encouraging.
