As she wandered through the seaside town in southern California, the star of Only Murders in the Building looked cosy in a long cream coloured sweater, a black t-shirt, and baggy white sweatpants from Naked Cashmere, all accessorised with fluffy sandals.
With her long, dark hair styled in loose curls, the Ice Cream singer fastened her phone to her waistband with a pink floral string.
The actress from Hotel Transylvania, who has been candid about her battles with depression, visited Washington, DC last week and gave a speech at the Mental Health Youth Action Forum on May 25 at the White House.
“Talking about your experiences or drawing attention to mental health issues in the media can be helpful,” she suggested.
She said, “Just to share a little bit of my journey, I felt like there was more freedom for me to be okay with what I had because I was learning about it once I found out what was going on mentally.”
Later, in a video that she posted to social media, the Same Old Love singer sat down with US Surgeon General Vivek Murthy, First Lady Dr. Jill Biden, and President Joe Biden.
“To lift the burden off people who have problem with their mental health, who feel lost, who are not sure what to do and sometimes they’re ashamed to acknowledge,” was how the President expressed her gratitude to her.
Murthy informed the multifaceted artist that other people are picking up tips from her.
They come to the realisation that they are not alone when they hear your tale and the stories of others. And that’s really the main objective here: we want to remove the stigma associated with mental health by enabling individuals to seek care when they need it and to stop suffering in silence and isolation.
Dr. Biden concurred, saying, “Mental health is really a crucial issue, regardless of age.” He said that the focus on mental health during the epidemic may have made it easier for more people to seek medical assistance.
“I really do think that we can make change, and it starts at the places where people spend the most time,” Selena concurred. Our children spend a great deal of time with their peer groups, primarily at school. President Biden clarified that one of his administration’s objectives was to increase access to mental health care by employing more psychologists and school counsellors.
The diligent advocate is making an effort to reach out. Through her Rare Beauty company, the Fundamentals of Caring actress donates money to charities that support youth mental health and education programs.
