On Monday, the first trailer for Emilia Perez, a new Netflix film, was released.
Selena Gomez, 31, plays the seductive role of Jessi, the cartel bride, in the Spanish-language musical about a transgangster.
Zoe Saldaña and Karla Sofía Gascón are also featured in the exciting, fast-paced video.
French legend Jacques Audiard wrote and directed the crime comedy picture.
It is based on the same-titled opera libretto by Audiard, which was itself partly taken on the 2018 novel Écoute by Boris Razon.
On November 1, the film opens in theatres, and on November 13, it becomes available for streaming.
Saldana portrays Rita Moro Castro, one of the movie’s characters.
Since the story takes place in contemporary Mexico, the entire movie is in Spanish.
The movie is described as follows on IMDB: ‘Lawyer Rita receives an unexpected offer.
“She has to assist a feared cartel boss in becoming the woman he’s always dreamed of being in order for him to retire from his business and disappear forever.”
Gascon, who plays male cartel kingpin Juan “Small Hands” Del Monte, who changes his identity to Emilia Perez, leads the cast of the movie.
Rita’s role in the movie is to help Emilia, the fleeing cartel boss, have sex reassignment surgery so she may affirm her gender and avoid detection.
The movie’s stars were present at the Cannes Film Festival debut in France back in May.
That was the location where Gomez dried her tears after receiving a standing ovation that lasted for nine minutes.
In the film, the singer of Love You Like A Love Song plays the gullible wife of the cartel head.
