In a swimwear photo that she shared on Instagram this Thursday, Selena Gomez flaunted the scar left by her kidney transplant.
The 28-year-old pop singer received the organ donation from her close friend Francia Raisa and had the procedure in 2017 to treat her lupus.
She made a statement about body confidence in the honest image this week, standing between her hot tub and a man-made creek in her garden while wearing a sky blue one-piece.
She said in her post, “I remember it being very difficult at first showing my scar when I got my kidney transplant.”
I dressed in ways that would hide it because I didn’t want it to show up in pictures. The Come And Get It singer declared, “I feel confident in who I am and what I went through now more than ever, and I’m proud of that.”
She was posing in a $120 Selena One Piece bikini that she designed with La’Mariette, the co-founder of which she commended in the caption.
“T-Congratulations on your efforts to support women by introducing @lamariette, whose message is that all bodies are beautiful,” Selena commented.
She informed Billboard in 2015 that she had been living with lupus for years, despite receiving a diagnosis prior.
In an attempt to treat the condition, she disclosed that she had “gone through chemotherapy,” which led to her widely reported stint at the Arizona rehab Meadows.
She shared a cute picture of herself and Francia holding hands while they lay in neighbouring hospital beds on Instagram three years ago, along with the news of her kidney transplant.
“There aren’t words to describe how I can possibly thank my beautiful friend Francia Raisa,” Selena exclaimed. She sacrificed everything for me, giving me a kidney as a gift. I am quite fortunate. My dearest love for you, sis.
