The Rock’s love of big trucks and motorsport will meet in his newest Disney project, a live-action movie about Monster Jam.
At Disney’s D23 2024 release event on Friday night, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson declared that a live-action movie based on Monster Jam will be his next Disney endeavour.
The movie’s working title is just Monster Jam, emulating the F1 titles of Apple and Brad Pitt.
The project is currently in production, but a release date has not yet been determined. The Rock cited his passion for motorsports and pickup trucks as the inspiration behind this movie. As the grand marshal of the Daytona 500 earlier this year, Johnson enjoyed the thrill of NASCAR.
“I’m ecstatic to share the news with you all,” Johnson declared from the D23 platform. “You guys already know that I love pickup trucks. I only drive that. Here, I travelled in my pickup truck. It’s in the rear. You are everyone aware of my passion for monster trucks and motorsports.”
Though the notion is still true, The Rock’s collection of cars consists of a little bit more than just pickup trucks.
Speaking to the crowd, Johnson opened the movie with the words, “Ladies and Gentlemen, I want you to take a look at our next big jam.”
Then pyrotechnics went off on stage, and the screen showed clips from the most recent Monster Jam season, which concluded its World Finals on May 18th at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California.
When you consider that both Disney on Ice and Monster Jam are under the Feld Entertainment umbrella and are situated in Tampa, Florida, just 90 minutes away from Disney World, the connection between Disney and Monster Jam doesn’t seem all that remote.
Monster Jam released a statement on Saturday after Johnson’s announcement, including the addition of the trademarked tagline ‘As Big As It Gets!’
“The Rock and Monster Jam together are really ‘As Big As It Gets!'” We’re thrilled to collaborate with Dwayne Johnson and Walt Disney Studios to take moviegoers into the world of Monster Jam on a high-octane, live-action adventure that brings the larger-than-life Monster Jam trucks and personalities from the stadium to the screen,” said Juliette Feld Grossman, Feld Entertainment’s CEO.
Monster Jam is renowned for fusing character development with stunts and racing. Trucks such as Grave Digger and Max-D have been part of the cultural zeitgeist for decades. Their time to shine on the big screen has come.
