Taylor Swift’s wacky penthouse apartment in Nashville became her own ‘Wonderland’.
Swift, 34, paid over $2 million for the multi-story condo in 2009. Although it was once an ultra-modern bachelor pad, the “Cruel Summer” transformed it into a maximalist’s fantasy.
Taylor Swift’s Nashville penthouse is straight out of a fairytale.
The “All Too Well” singer was just 20 when she purchased the 3,240-square-foot abode on Nashville’s Music Row.
The pop star spent 18 months gut-renovating the three-bedroom home to achieve her dream creative space, which she once told Vanity Fair was “Tim Burton-Alice in Wonderland-pirate ship-Peter Pan”-inspired.
Swift is the proud owner of a three-bedroom penthouse in the heart of Nashville — one of her two residences in Music City.
Swift purchased the penthouse in 2009 for just under $2 million
Walking in the front door, guests are immediately greeted with a sensory overload, from the splashes of colorful wallpaper to the koi pond sitting in the middle of the living room.
The pond, which houses actual fish to her cat Meredith’s dismay, “sits beneath a wrought-metal spiral staircase leading to a human-sized bird cage,” according to Swift’s 2012 interview with Rolling Stone.
Swift, of course, designed the bird cage herself, calling it the “most comfortable place in the world” lined with pillows and blankets.
The floor-to-ceiling windows inside the corner duplex look out to the Great Smoky Mountains beyond Nashville, a stark contrast to the busy design inside the space.
Swift even added a Koi pond into the middle of her living room.
It also seems that the koi pond ledge serves as a fantastic concert venue.
“A six-foot topiary rabbit” is located beyond the entrance, which is adorned with “frames of brightly coloured paper flowers,” according to Vanity Fair.
Numerous pictures of Swift with her closest friends and family adorn the walls, some of which are made of brick and others which are covered in vibrant wallpaper.
In 2012, Swift said to VF, “I need to have pictures of people I love everywhere.”
However, Swift also framed a picture of the historic occasion when Kanye West cut short her 2009 VMA acceptance speech above the enormous stone fireplace with an elaborate blue face.
She allegedly scribbled, “Life is full of little interruptions,” in gold ink just next to the award itself, on top of the photo on her mantel.
The renovation lasted over a year, which turned the apartment into an “Alice In Wonderland” masterpiece.
A bifurcated hearth rests at the centre of the koi pond.
Swift made the most of the apartment’s high ceilings as well as every square inch of wall space by covering one area with ‘billowing curtains’ and another with ‘a painted blue night sky’.
Several vibrant crystalline stars hang from the ceiling, and the walls lined with windows are adorned with colourful draperies and sparkling chandeliers.
A maroon couch, ancient wood furniture, and a plethora of trinkets, including her collection of vintage bottles and antique books, are arranged throughout her tastefully designed bookcases in the slightly more relaxed sitting area.
The corner unit features floor-to-ceiling windows, which are covered by colorful curtains.
The multicoloured wallpaper and various colours adorn the quirky house.
On the opposite side of the room is a large wooden dining table next to a wide bar top area with a number of colourful, naturally padded chairs.
There are worn Persian rugs all throughout the place, covering the oak hardwood flooring.
Her open-concept kitchen, which is as eccentric as the rest of the house, flows seamlessly from the living area.
Swift showcased her cooking prowess and decorating sense in her “Miss Americana” documentary, giving viewers a peek of the maximalist space.
She even has a cozy human-sized birdcage in her formal living room.
Her kitchen mixes a multitude of different patterns and colors, with hand painting on the cabinets.
The kitchen is straight out of a fairy tale, with a heart-tiled backsplash, rounded archways and cabinetry painted in different shades of blue, red and yellow.
It looks like Swift adorned the cabinets with some doodles herself as each cupboard features hand-painted floral designs of varying colors and sizes.
Her stainless steel ovens are covered with different stickers to match her menagerie of different colored plates and bowls.
A massive wood island sits in the middle of the room with a black and gold hood placed directly above it.
She once described her style as “Tim Burton-Alice in Wonderland-pirate ship-Peter Pan”-inspired
She also added lots of personal touches to the space, with photos of her friends and family lining the walls in gold frames.
While most of her home is decked out in every shade of the rainbow, her second-story bedroom is “everything white and fluffy.”
Swift once shared a look into the luxe suite on her Tumblr, showing one of her cats sitting atop her plush, cream-upholstered bed frame.
Her bedroom walls are covered in tan-and-white floral wallpaper and she hung several vintage-looking mirrors above her bed.
For privacy, the “Anti-Hero” star draped white, tiered curtains along the windows, matching her bedside table lampshades.
Every creative element of the home was seemingly chosen by the hitmaker herself
However, her bedroom is a sanctuary from the mayhem downstairs and is decorated in all-white.
The eccentric Nashville condo is undoubtedly one of Swift’s most imaginative homes, but the singer-songwriter also possesses a number of other stunning properties.
The $80 million real estate portfolio of the 14-time Grammy winner also includes her $50 million complex in New York City and her saltbox mansion on the coast of Rhode Island.
In June 2011, she also acquired another property in Music City, which is called the Northumberland Estate, in Nashville, where she resides most of the time.
