The ’22’ hat Taylor Swift gave her younger sister has been widely criticized for being sold on eBay for $20,000 by a’selfish’ woman.
Jeana Linzy was present during the May 2023 Eras Tour performance at Metlife Stadium in New Jersey.
Out of thousands of concertgoers, Jeana’s younger sister was selected to receive the black bowler hat the pop artist dons during her performance of her 2012 song “22.”
In spite of the fact that some recipients—like Jeana’s sister, it seems—have been chosen at random, Taylor presented the hat to a nine-year-old cancer patient last month during her Sydney performance.
The 22 hat, which Taylor signed, was seen on eBay last night for $20,000 by X user @tayl0rsf0lkl0re.
They became enraged and shared a screenshot of the listing, saying, “OMG, someone is selling the 22 hat?! I detest humans, ugh!
The listing, which is no longer available, states that the proceeds of the sale ‘would go towards her collage [sic] fund’.
Another fan was suspicious that the post was a fraud and contacted Jeana, who had posted video of Taylor Swift’s concert on TikTok.
‘Hey, this is strange and I don’t mean to bother you but I found your Insta from the TikTok of your sister getting the 22 hat,’ they wrote in a message to her on Instagram.
“I just wanted to let you know that these pictures are currently trending on Twitter [X] since it appears that someone is selling her 22 cap on eBay.
Since the eBay account seems dubious, I believe the user is a fraudster who downloaded images from your TikTok.
“I don’t know if that’s the case or not, but I just thought you should be aware,” the person said in reference to the posts she keeps reading accusing her parents of selling the hat.
Indeed, that is our listing, Jeana retorted. I’m grateful.
Others, on the other hand, immediately defended the family and attacked fans for pressing them to take down the eBay ad.
One person said, “This is an example of the fandom going overboard.” Even though the majority of us wouldn’t act in this way, why do you push people into altering their personal choices because it makes you feel better? How disgusting.
Another person agreed with user X and said, “Right? Like how daring is it for everyone to get so entangled in the affairs of total strangers?
One third said, “I love Taylor, but I don’t like being called a Swiftie because of this.”
A five-year-old girl who had won a public speaking competition at one of Taylor’s Sydney gigs received the 22 hat earlier this year.
Oliver Mills, 24, a popular user on TikTok, told the guests on The Sunday Project in February that winning the hat was a result of both serendipity and the fact that she was a huge admirer of his channel.
“I was in the perfect location at the ideal moment.” “We’re just going to run with that; she said she was a fan and thought I was funny, and I’m not one to kiss and tell,” he remarked.
“It was truly amazing to be that close to someone so kind and beautiful while performing on stage.”
