After taking center stage at Coachella last month, Lana Del Rey triumphantly returned to the Met Gala last night, her first attendance since 2018. As per usual, the singer wore an ethereal, dark, and romantic fashion look for the occasion.
Wearing a custom creation by Alexander McQueen’s Seán McGirr, she commandably performed the famous Met steps.
Del Rey’s startling appearance was inspired by an old Alexander McQueen design from the house’s autumn 2006 collection; McGirr aimed to honor the atelier’s savoir faire in a fresh, modern manner.
Using hammered bronze-bullion hawthorn branches, it produced a corseted silk, double georgette, and tulle garment that was hand-embroidered. The design was influenced by the form and patina of sculptures created by Swiss artist Alberto Giacometti.
McGirr made a unique headdress for Del Rey out of real hawthorn branches and draped them with a transparent tulle veil for a dramatic finale. She also donned a bronze metal Drop bag with a clock motif embroidered on it.
