One of the most consistent box office producers in the business today is Vin Diesel. This is largely due to his character Dom in the tenth installment of the legendary Fast & Furious film franchise, which is set to release this year. Not to be forgotten, though, is his role as Groot in the Guardians of the Galaxy films and the fact that he made his breakthrough as the science fiction antihero Richard B. Riddick in the 2000 film Pitch Black.
The sci-fi horror film that made its way through on a shoestring budget was the first one. Writer-director David Twohy raised the bar for his follow-up film The Chronicles of Riddick, adding a ton of backstory, increasing the budget, and casting Judi Dencht as a space priest.
And then there was a third film released in 2013 that seems to have slipped most people’s minds. Furthermore, Diesel and Twohy are reportedly working on a fourth, according to Deadline.
Vin Diesel’s role as Richard B. Riddick in Riddick: Furya will reappear.
“We’re finally ready to honor our legion fans’ call to action with Riddick: Furya, as they have demanded for years,” a statement from Twohy read. Over the course of our 20 wonderful years of working together, Vin and One Race and I have produced three motion comics for the internet, two video games, an anime, and three films. We will finally be able to delve into Riddick’s origins in this new big-screen event, which will take us back to his homeworld.
By the way, the name of Riddick’s home planet is Furya, which was abandoned after a bloody war campaign. I know nothing about Furyans, but Riddick is a warrior from a race that sounds more like cute puppy aliens than anything else.
