HE’S JUST WIRY: On a $760M action movie set, Jason Statham intimidated Idris Elba even more than WWE Superstar Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson

Given his impressive physique and years of professional wrestling experience, it is reasonable to assume that Dwayne Johnson would be the most formidable man on the movie set. If Arnold Schwarzenegger weren’t there, Johnson would most likely fall to the “second most intimidating” spot. But no one would have thought Jason Statham was more terrifying than The Rock.

Idris Elba Discovered Jason Statham More Chilling Than The Stone.

In David Leitch’s action-packed buddy cop classic Hobbs & Shaw, the legendary team of a mercenary and an agent forge an unexpected alliance to combat a shared menace. The movie, a spin-off of the Fast & Furious franchise, stars Jason Statham as a British lawman turned outcast and Dwayne Johnson as the American agent. The rest of the ensemble cast consists of actors including Ryan Reynolds, Idris Elba, Vanessa Kirby, and Roman Reigns.

Even though she worked with two professional wrestlers (the other is already retired), Idris Elba, 50, thought Jason Statham was the most terrifying man on set. Stephen Colbert questioned Elba which actor from The Rock or The Transporter was “more daunting,” and she replied that the latter definitely had the upper hand.

“It’s Jason. He’s just like, wiry,” the Luther star pointed out. “The Rock’s kind of like, ‘Give me a hug boy. You don’t want to fight.’” Even Colbert seemed to agree, remarking how, though Johnson might look like he could crush you with little or no effort (which he definitely can), his personality is that of a “big lovable teddy bear.”

Jason Statham & Dwayne Johnson – A Classic Duo

If there’s one thing clichés have taught us, it’s that the short, sour person is always more intimidating than the big, strong guy who’s actually hilarious and wonderfully friendly. The actors from Hobbs & Shaw were a wonderful fit for this cliché.

Although Johnson has over ten years more professional wrestling experience than Statham, it shouldn’t come as a huge surprise that he looks like a gigantic teddy bear outside of the ring. The guy genuinely allows his kids to apply cosmetics and dab his face in pink paint. Despite the fact that he could easily overpower someone in a matter of seconds and that his physique is nothing less than a muscle shrine, it goes without saying that he is one of the least terrifying of the group.

On the Hobbs & Shaw set, Dwayne JohnsonNext is Statham, the tough guy with a constant scowl engraved on his face who is either always angry or completely indifferent with no middle ground. If you will, the gritty opposite of Johnson’s silly. Not to mention, in addition to kickboxing, The Expendables star is a karate and martial arts nerd. That clarifies the deadly edge to his character. The characters they play in the 2019 action movie actually resemble them a lot, with Johnson playing the endearing but outspoken person with a sense of humor and Statham playing the cool, collected, yet menacing Deckard Shaw. It makes sense why the latter spooked Idris Elba more.
