When Moana and Maui sail back into theaters for their sequel, it will almost be time to head back out the sea with them.

Following the popularity of the first cartoon, which debuted in November 2016, comes Moana 2. AuliŻi Cravalho, the ocean-loving daughter of the Chief of Motunui, and a demigod (Dwayne Johnson) work together to save her people from a horrible curse in the thrilling tale of the original film, which caused waves.

Disney CEO Bob Iger revealed in February that a sequel to Moana was initially intended to be a TV show. But once everyone seen the trailer, they made the decision to proceed with a different feature-length film.

Variety reports that Iger stated on CNBC, “We were impressed by what we saw and knew it deserved a theatrical release.” “We’re excited to give you more of Moana and Maui when Moana 2 hits theaters. Moana is still a hugely popular franchise.”
