‘DREAM COME TRUE’: Anya Taylor-Joy Shares ‘Dreamy Moment’ with Dad at Oscars After She ‘Promised’ to Bring Him as Child

A childhood fantasy came true for Anya Taylor-Joy on Sunday during the 2024 Oscars ceremony.

Anya Taylor-Joy arrives with her father Dennis Taylor at the 96th Annual Academy Awards at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, California on March 10, 2024.

The 27-year-old Furiosa actor, who costarred with Chris Hemsworth in the film, brought a special guest as her father, Dennis Alan Taylor, to the 96th Academy Awards.

In an Instagram post on Tuesday, the actress described the experience as “dreamy” and included a series of images, starting with a picture of her and her father getting ready for the awards presentation.

The piece was partially written in Taylor-Joy’s native Spanish. Born in the United States, Taylor-Joy was reared in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and London. She wrote, “At 12, I vowed to my dad that I would take him to the Oscars if I was ever invited. 🥹.”

She went on to say that she was “filled with gratitude,” or “llena de gratitud.”

A photo of Taylor-Joy showcasing her silver beaded Dior Haute Couture gown—a designer Maria Grazia Chiuri “reimagining of the 1949 Venus Dress”—was shared on social media. The Dior ambassador referred to the gown as “the icing on the most delicious of cakes.”

E! Live from the Red Carpet host Laverne Cox replied to Taylor-Joy in one of the post’s comments, saying, “You are such a beautiful, talented, charismatic light!”

Speaking to Cox ahead of time on the red carpet on Oscar Sunday, the Queen’s Gambit Emmy contender hinted at her Mad Max prequel, which opens in theatres on May 24.

“Those films just bring in a certain kind of chaos,” she added, referring to the George Miller-helmed series that consists of Mad Max (1979), The Road Warrior (1981), Beyond Thunderdome (1985), and Fury Road (2016). In the later film, Charlize Theron made her debut as Imperator Furiosa, a role that Taylor-Joy will take over in the next release.

“I told my dad I wanted to take him to the Oscars 15 years ago,” Taylor-Joy remarked to Amelia Dimoldenberg in a different interview conducted on the red carpet of the Oscars. And I succeeded tonight!”

Alongside his daughter, Taylor was questioned on the red carpet. Billy Bush of Extra questioned him about his pride in Taylor-Joy, to which he replied, “She is put so much hard work into [her career].” Not only does the skill exist, but so do the diligence and tenacity. That is crucial.

The actress Taylor-Joy, who is featured in the recently released Dune: Part Two, admitted, “I have a lot going on.” But I am incredibly appreciative. The icing on the cake is being able to share with my dad tonight.

Hemsworth and Taylor-Joy shared the Oscars for Best Animated Short and Best Animated Feature, which went to War Is Over!, during the programme. Inspired by The Boy and the Heron and John & Yoko’s music, respectively.
