THE MIRACLE CONTINUES: Billie Eilish Wins Her Second Oscar for Barbie Song “What Was I Made For”

The singer-songwriter won the Oscar for Best Original Song for Barbie’s “What Was I Made For” tonight, sharing the honour with her brother Finneas O’Connell. The two performed original songs from American Symphony, Flamin’ Hot, Killers of the Flower Moon, and another Barbie song, “I am Just Ken,” with great success.

Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo, who will be appearing in the next Wicked flicks, gave them the trophy.

Eilish started, “I had a nightmare about this last night,” then paused and burst out laughing. “The Academy, thank you so much; I honestly did not expect this would happen. This was not what I expected. I am really grateful and honoured. Greta, you have my gratitude; I love you. She continued, “This goes out to everyone who was affected by the movie and how incredible it is.” With a string of heartfelt thanks, Finneas piped in, “Thank you to our parents forever and ever and ever.”

The crowd gave Eilish and Finneas a standing ovation when they performed their song earlier in the evening.

During the 94th Academy Awards, Finneas O’Connell and Billie Eilish accept the Best Original Song trophy for “No Time to Die”.

Billie exclaimed, “This is so unbelievable I could scream,” at their acceptance speech. Finneas said, “We want to thank our parents, who have always been our biggest inspirations and our heroes, and we love you as parents, and we love you as real people too.”

With the siblings’ victory tonight, a song has won both Song of the Year at the Grammys, the top songwriting honour, and Best Original Song at the Oscars for the first time since 1999. The last song to accomplish that double feat was “My Heart Will Go On” by Celine Dion from Titanic. According to Billboard, there have only been 10 instances in history of the double victory, including Eilish’s win tonight.
