When a reporter questioned Anya Taylor-Joy whether she is “self-conscious” about her eyes, she responded in a sad way.

When a reporter questioned Anya Taylor-Joy about whether she had ever felt “self-conscious” about her eyes, she gave a devastating reaction.

The 27-year-old actor initially rose to fame in her late teens, most known for her part in the popular Netflix series The Queen’s Gambit and the 2022 movie The Menu.

Before being chosen to star with James McAvoy in the 2016 movie Split, she was cast in films including Endeavour and The Witch.

Taylor-Joy met with W Magazine that year to talk about her ascent to prominence and to address some criticism of her journey.

The reporter called the actor’s eyes “beautiful” during the interview, but then noted that they were “so far apart.” The actor possesses striking good looks.

“When you were a kid, did they make you self conscious?,” they were asking.

Taylor-Joy responded by thinking back to the hurtful remarks she had heard about her appearance in the past, especially at the time when bullies could remain anonymous on social media.

“I can definitely remember when Facebook was a thing and I was never aware that my eyes were far apart and then someone tagged me in a picture with a fish and they were like, ‘This is you because your eyes are like here,'” she said, describing one especially painful recollection.

“And I was really upset about it and I didn’t enjoy it and I kind of stopped looking in mirrors for a very long time.”

In order to avoid having to “deal with [her] face,” the actor continued to acknowledge at the time that she still didn’t “really spend a lot of time in front of mirrors.”

“Sadly, you all do,” she said in jest.

Recalling further childhood experiences, Taylor-Joy mentioned how her eye position affected her athletic abilities.

“I will say, though, that it’s interesting in sports because I became very aware that my eyes were really on both sides of my face when I was smaller because my head was a lot more compact,” the woman said in her explanation.

On the playground, it became well known that throwing a ball at my head’s side was the best way to get me to catch it. Otherwise, I would just go, ‘Oh my God,’ whenever you tossed it here. How come? What took place? What’s happening?”

But Taylor-Joy claimed that her face had “grown a bit more” since then.

I feel like I’m developing personally. I’m not as uncomfortable,” she remarked. Even so, I’m still developing greatly. I increased in height by around two inches the previous year. I’m not sure what to do with every limb I have.”

Though Taylor-Joy may not have believed she knew what to do with her limbs, her continued success in landing major roles in Hollywood is proof certain that whatever she did was successful.
