In the 2024 follow-up, Timothée Chalamet’s Paul Atreides battles Baron Harkonnen (Stellan Skarsgård) and Emperor Shaddam Corrino IV (Christopher Walken) in an effort to liberate Arrakis and its indigenous Fremen people from despotic domination.

Paul also has to deal with images of the future, as if that was not enough. They demonstrate to him that if he unites the Fremen to free Arrakis, he would unleash a fanatical army that will start a violent holy war that might claim billions of lives throughout the galaxy.

Amidst all of that, Paul’s mother, Lady Jessica (Rebecca Ferguson), speaks to her unborn daughter in the womb about Paul and the scheme to free Arrakis with her own superhuman powers.

Taylor-Joy plays Paul’s sister, who makes a fleeting appearance in one of his visions but is not a major character in the narrative.

Paul understands that the only way he can get an advantage over the Fremen is to drink from the Water of Life after the Harkonnens launch a crushing attack on one of their strongholds.

By doing this, he broadens his perspective and has the ability to predict the future. And he develops into the Kwisatz Haderach, a potent messianic figure. However, he goes into a coma after consuming the sandworm-derived liquid.

In a dream while sleeping, Paul sees Alia trekking over the Arrakis desert and emerging onto a beach with waves crashing at her feet. Yes, a real ocean on the planet covered with deserts.

This could be a reference to the books’ depiction of Arrakis gradually terraforming into a less hostile version of itself, complete with oceans and jungles.

Taylor-Joy might play a bigger role in the franchise if “Dune: Part Three” comes to pass. If Villeneuve sticks to the novels, she might even take Paul’s place as the ruler of the Atreides family and the world.

Since Alia is still a baby in “Part Two,” “Part Three” would have to jump forward in time to explain how she is already a grown lady. Alternatively, Villeneuve may simply attribute the quicker ageing process to Lady Jessica and the Bene Gesserit is eerie space witch ery.

In any case, “Dune: Part Three” would most likely adapt Frank Herbert’s next book, “Dune: Messiah,” which explores how Paul’s holy war has killed billions of people throughout the cosmos.

As a result, certain groups attempt to kill Paul in order to remove him from his position of authority, just as Paul did when he killed the Baron and succeeded the Emperor. One of these attacks blinds him, and any blind person must roam the desert according to Fremen’s law.

Furthermore, we have not even touched on the fact that she is possessed by Baron Harkonnen’s ghost in the third book, “Children of Dune.” Horrible. However, to be honest, that is a topic for an other essay.
