The decadence and excess of the 1980s has recently been the preferred style reference for the A-list. Miley Cyrus was the first to perform at the Grammys, and her tribute to her godmother, the legendary Dolly Parton, was spot on. Then, at the Super Bowl, Florence Pugh debuted a spikey mullet and Blake Lively had a mess of curls reminiscent of Mariah Carey. Actress Anya Taylor-Joy had a full head of frothy disco frizz as she stepped out at another Dune: Part Two premiere in New York this week, making it feel like we’ve gone back in time again.
The style would have fit right in at Studio 54, but Taylor-Joy’s hairstylist Gregory Russell gave it a modern twist by using grips to secure each side and a sharp centre part to create contrast. It looked like Anya’s frosty blonde hair had been crimped and then combed out with a bristle brush to get the desired fuzzy texture in terms of length. Georgie Eisdell, the make-up artist, matched the dramatic flair of her Maison Margiela gown by giving her lips a rich berry stain and drawing attention to her chiselled cheekbones with a terracotta blush.
After the deluge of vintage beauty trends that have been making waves recently, we can’t wait for the next big thing. Anyone interested in Brigitte Bardot’s beehive?
