Dakota Johnson and her partner Chris Martin took a private jet to Puerto Vallarta in Mexico after hearing that her movie Madame Web had a terrible opening weekend.
After getting bad reviews for her latest project, which critics called one of the worst superhero movies in recent years, Dakota, 34, and her partner, 46, seemed to find comfort on a sunny beach.
Even though her suspense film is now Sony’s lowest-grossing Spider-Man movie of all time, the actress didn’t seem to care as she dove into the water in a high-cut white swimsuit.
Martin held Dakota’s hand as they went into the water to cool off. Martin was married to Gwyneth Paltrow from 2003 to 2016.
The couple splashed around in the water and then came back to shore, where the father of two could be seen praying on the sand.
Martin wore light grey and orange shorts for their laid-back trip to show off his good looks.
After that, the two were seen drying off with beach towels next to a shack by the water and spending the rest of the day in the sun.
Jones pulled her long brown hair back into a tight bun as they got ready to leave the beach.
Johnson’s Madame Web had one of the worst opening weekends for a superhero movie in recent memory. This means that the company has pretty much given up on a possible franchise.
The movie made $26.2 million in its first six days, from Valentine’s Day in the middle of the week to Monday, which was Presidents’ Day.
That number became one of the lowest for any movie based on a Marvel Comics character in its first weekend.
The company did want to start a new series with Johnson’s main character and three other women played by Sydney Sweeney, Isabela Merced, and Celeste O’Connor.
However, people who work in the movie business tell The Hollywood Reporter that there probably won’t be another Madame Web movie for ten years.
“There won’t be another Madame Web movie for over ten years.” It didn’t work. A source told THR that Sony tried to make a superhero movie that was different from the norm.
There have been superhero films like Morbius that didn’t do well with reviewers or fans but did well overseas and made $170 million worldwide. That probably won’t happen with Madame Web.
In foreign markets, it only made $25.7 million, giving it a worldwide debut of only $51.9 million. This is despite a stated budget of $80 million, which many sources say is actually more than $100 million.
It still hasn’t come out in China, which is by far the biggest and most important foreign market. The Middle Kingdom will be the first country to get it on March 1, and South Korea will be the last country on March 13.
Still, it doesn’t look like the Chinese release will be able to make up for all the bad reviews at the box office.
It didn’t help that the movie got a terrible rating from reviewers (13% on Rotten Tomatoes, the worst rating ever for a superhero movie).
In fact, it looked like the awful reviews caused several advance ticket sales to be cancelled.
