Observing Anya Taylor-Joy on the Picket Line Amidst the Ongoing Actors’ Strike

Earlier this week, Anya Taylor-Joy, who stars in The Queen’s Gambit and Super Mario Bros., was seen on the picket lines in Los Angeles while the actors’ strike continues.

Taylor-Joy, who is 27 years old, was spotted wearing a black cap that read “Daddy” and a SAG-AFTRA t-shirt, which is the union for actors. Additionally, she had a picket sign in the shape of caution tape.

Taylor-Joy is among the many famous people who have joined the strike, which is less about the stars and more about the working class actors who play supporting roles in films receiving a living wage.

The writers’ union, the WGA, and the AMPTP are reportedly planning to meet on Wednesday, September 20, with the goal of ending the actors’ strike, which is now at a stalemate.

The writers’ strike started in May and has continued all summer long; the actors’ strike started in mid-July.

With a meteoric rise to fame in recent years, Taylor-Joy had a solitary role in 2023: lending her voice to Princess Peach in The Super Mario Bros. Movie. Her other notable credits include Split, Glass, The Queen’s Gambit, Emma, Last Night in Soho, The Northman, The Menu, and Amsterdam.

The next action epic Furiosa, directed by George Miller, will include Taylor-Joy in the lead character of Imperator Furiosa, who was played by Charlize Theron in Mad Max: Fury Road. This will be the most ambitious film of Taylor-Joy’s career.

Additionally, she is committed to the project Laughter in the Dark, which will be directed by her Queen’s Gambit colleague Scott Frank, and she is due to star alongside Miles Teller in The Forge, which is being produced by Scott Derrickson (Doctor Strange). Neither of these projects have an official release date just yet.

Assuming there is a sequel to The Super Mario Bros. Movie, she will undoubtedly reprise her role as Peach, considering the film’s enormous success. It is the second-highest-grossing movie of the year, behind Barbie.
