After ‘ignoring’ Celine Dion to accept the Album of the Year prize at the Sunday Grammy Awards, Taylor Swift faced criticism for being ‘disrespectful’.
Despite her struggle with stiff-person syndrome, Dion made an unexpected and uncommon appearance at the ceremony to give Swift, 34, the award, which she had won herself 27 years prior.
Swift, who was a 2022 record nominee for Midnights, made history by being the first person to win the award four times. She then made a dramatic entrance onto the stage of the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.
When Dion, 55, gave her the trophy, admirers noted that Swift ignored them and avoided making eye contact, instead turning to gaze back and enjoy the occasion with her partners.
But, there didn’t seem to be any bad blood between the legendary duo as they later posed joyfully backstage.
It was outrageous that Taylor Swift ignored Celine Dior entirely, treating her like a trophy model presenter at the Grammy Awards. She is typically such a pro and has won this three times. Who is handling so much, though, to disregard an icon? Whoa.
As someone who has stood up for Taylor, I am unable to support this. Not a single acknowledgement of Celine,” said a second.
“Taylor Swift will always regret not paying attention to Celine Dion at the Grammy Awards.”
“Why was Taylor Swift dragging Lana to the Grammys but not recognising the legend Celine Dion?” Another user commented, “Smh,” referring to Lana Del Rey’s performance.
“JAIL if Taylor doesn’t acknowledge Celine and then snatches the Grammy away from her.”
With the help of her 23-year-old oldest son Rene-Charles Angelil, Dion entered the stage to a standing ovation and applause, clearly emotional as she presented Album of the Year.
She thanked everyone. I reciprocate your love. You appear stunning. I genuinely mean it when I say that I’m glad to be here.
“We who are fortunate enough to be in attendance at the Grammy Awards should never undervalue the immense love and happiness that music infuses into our lives and the lives of others worldwide.”
