Dating back to very early periods in human history, the practice of adorning the human body with various adornments made possible by the use of a wide range of components.
1
What makes one need to be decorated? Is this just the result of wanting to look well and impress other people, or are there other forces at work as well? Tattooing is the procedure of applying a dye—which the body’s natural processes cannot completely remove—all the way up to the dermis’ surface through a specific technique. A pointed device is used to make incisions or holes in the skin in order to access the deeper layers of the skin.
2
Then, using a device that looks like a cross between a needle and a thorn, these incisions are dyed with the appropriate pigment. Alternatively, a needle puncture of the skin can be used to inject the dye beneath the skin by passing a thread coated in the dye across the skin.

The Eskimos use this technique. Another technique is to open the wounds, apply a mixture of gunpowder and saltpeter, and then light the mixture.

After undergoing any of these procedures, especially the skin-bruising treatment, the skin will have a permanent, light- or dark-blue burr mark on its surface.
