On Sunday night, two NFL power couples clashed as Taylor Swift watched from the stands as Jonathan Owens, the husband of Simone Biles, got away with pushing Travis Kelce during the last play of Kansas City’s loss to the Green Bay Packers.
As the Chiefs were losing 27-19 with little time remaining, quarterback Patrick Mahomes dipped back to attempt a Hail Mary pass into the end zone.
Although Kelce was one of his targeted targets, it seemed as though Packers safety Owens gave the Chiefs tight end a two-handed shove in the back.
Moments afterward, it seemed as though Packers linebacker De’Vondre Campbell also grabbed Kelce by the arm.
However, since the ball was brought down and Green Bay’s victory was assured, neither event received a flag.
Superstar partners of Owens and Kelce were present: Swift and Brittany Mahomes watched the game together, while gymnast Biles supported Owens and the Packers.
A few fans in Green Bay made light of the competing power couples by hoisting signs stating that they were there to see Biles, not Swift.
Broadcasters argued on whether or not to raise the flag for contact on the play after the game. However, it is typical to steer clear of pass interference calls during a Hail Mary.
Kelce caught four catches for 81 yards to end the game leading the Chiefs in yardage.
The Chiefs rookie wide receiver Rashee Rice, who finished the game with eight catches for 64 yards, led the club in receptions rather than the eight-time Pro Bowl tight end.
Conversely, after earning five stops throughout the game, Owens finished the night tied for third place among the Packers’ tacklers.
The Chiefs and their supporters questioned more than just the referees’ decision to not call plays involving Owens and Kelce.
After a protracted incompletion to wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling, the team had called for a pass interference flag minutes earlier in the drive.
