When Taylor Swift won the Best Family Feature prize at the 2021 CMT Music Awards on Wednesday night, she couldn’t help but think about her mother.
The 31-year-old pop sensation turned country singer didn’t watch the award show or the ceremony on television, but it didn’t seem to bother her as she expressed her “love” for her mother Andrea Swift on Twitter.
The singer gushed about her mother in a quote tweet after CMT released a tribute video that included snippets from Taylor’s winning video for The Best Day (Taylor’s Version).
She exclaimed, “I LOVE YOU MOM,” in all caps.
Songs and videos that prominently showcase the artists’ families or were recorded in association with them are the focus of this award category.
Only a few days before the event, the late-breaking category was added, and its existence was not disclosed during the broadcast. The singer-songwriter released a lyric video for the song back in April, which included a number of never-before-seen images and videos of her with her mother Andrea.
The tender snippet was included in the remastered version of Taylor’s Fearless, her 2008 second studio album.
Following her assertion that she had been denied the chance to purchase her own master recordings, Scooter Braun purchased all of her master recordings, so she set about recreating each song on the original, plus bonus tracks.
Fans can now buy or stream a new version of the album, which stops Braun from making money off of her songs.
Taylor Swift, her brother Austin, and her father Scott Swift are all featured in the video for The Best Day, in addition to her mother Andrea.
The artist has been transparent on social media about her mother’s importance to her and the challenges the family has faced as a result of her mother’s repeated cancer battles.
