Decoding 17 tattoos on Selena Gomez’s body with deep meaning behind

On the side of her right wrist, Gomez has a little music note as her first tattoo

Fans initially mistook Gomez’s new tattoo, which she debuted in 2012, for a little black heart.

At a pre-Oscars party, the 19-year-old, however, corrected the record on her very first tattoo.

According to Gomez, it’s a musical note. “For some reason, everyone assumed it was a heart, but music has a significant impact on my life.”

She referred to the late Latina singer Selena Quintanilla-Perez and said, “I was named after a singer, I’m a singer, and I’ve got a lot of other personal reasons.”

She then had the Roman numeral 76 tattooed on the back of her neck

Gomez received her second ink, “LXXVI,” from renowned New York City tattoo artist Keith Scott “Bang Bang” McCurdy in 2012.

“The tattoo was a tribute to a family member who she said means a lot to her,” Bang Bang revealed to the Daily Mail.

Gomez released a picture of the tattoo on her website over a year later with the phrase “1976.”

It’s most likely a tribute to her mother Mandy Teefey, who was only 16 years old when she gave birth to Gomez in 1976 and was born in California.

On her right thigh, she has the words “God who strengthens me” written.

Gomez received her third tattoo on her thigh sometime in 2012, but she kept it a secret for over a year.

She said, “I’ve done a pretty good job of hiding it,” to Ryan Seacrest in a 2013 radio interview.

Gomez stated to Seacrest that “God who strengthens me” is a revised version of her favorite Bible verse, Philippians 4:13, after she was taken at the beach and admirers noticed the ink.

Bang Bang signed Gomez once more in 2014.

He stated to E! News that “Selena already had it written out how she wanted,” adding that “she had been wanting this one for a while.”

When setting it up, “we played with it a little until we found the perfect spot,” he said. “She flipped out; she loved it.”

She appears to be remembering the moment she met one of her dearest pals with a symbol on her left hip

Although Gomez’s tattoo’s origin is unknown, admirers noticed a faint imprint of it on her hip in 2015 while she was pictured at the beach.

Gomez informed Refinery29 that the image is actually a date, despite the fact that many fans and media outlets have mistakenly identified it as the mystical “Om” symbol.

The tattoo on her left hip, according to author Heather Wood Rudulph, “represents when she met one of her best friends eight years ago.”

The next year, Gomez shared a picture of a sheet with copies of her own tattoos on it. The mysterious symbol resembles the letters “X,” “3,” and “1” put together in a curly font.

Gomez has the word “sunshine” on her right foot.

Gomez received this tattoo before April 2016, as it was a part of the temporary tattoo sheet that was offered as souvenirs during the “Revival” tour.

Gomez confirmed on Instagram prior to her departure that the sheet would have all of her own pieces.

“Each and every one of them mean so much to me,” she penned. “I currently have 7 tattoos (and counting).”

Gomez has never discussed the significance of her tattoo, although in 2016, she called her grandmother “my sunshine” on Twitter.

Tommy Dorfman, Alisha Boe, and Gomez all had wrist tattoos of identical semicolons

Since it was a piece of the temporary tattoo sheet that was sold as mementos during the “Revival” tour, Gomez got this tattoo before April 2016.

Prior to her departure, Gomez stated on Instagram that the sheet would contain only bits that belonged to her.

“Each and every one of them mean so much to me,” she wrote. “I have seven tattoos right now (and counting).”

Despite calling her grandmother “my sunshine” on Twitter in 2016, Gomez has never talked about the meaning behind her tattoo.

Together with Nicola Peltz, she also received a “angel” tattoo.

Gomez brought in the new year in Cabo, Mexico, with a group of close pals that included newlyweds Nicola Peltz and Brooklyn Beckham.

It seems like Gomez and the pair have become very close, especially Peltz, who shared a photo of their matching tattoos on her Instagram story.

They can be distinguished by their sleeves, even though Peltz did not tag Gomez and merely added a white heart emoji. The two women had previously posed for pictures wearing identical silver dresses.
